Restless legs syndrome

Project type

This book was co-authored with Ronald Mary, a journalist affected by this syndrome, and with the collaboration of Dr. Bugnicourt, a neurologist.

Date

Restless legs syndrome (Willis-Ekbom disease) is a neurological disorder of unknown origin. It affects between 8 and 10% of the French population and is characterized by an irresistible urge to move the legs and sometimes the arms, along with symptoms such as restlessness, tingling, prickling, pain, and burning sensations in the limbs, with varying intensity from person to person. Currently, only a few medications offer limited relief for this condition, which primarily affects women (two-thirds of sufferers). While there is still no cure for restless legs syndrome, it is possible to alleviate its symptoms and live more peacefully by addressing the three main challenges faced by those affected: inflammation, insomnia, and stress. This practical guide is written by Ronald Mary, who has lived with the condition for about twenty years. He is accompanied by Marianne Houart-Bugnicourt, a naturopath, and Jean-Marc Bugnicourt, a neurologist. The goal is to help those affected to take control of their lifestyle and design their own personalized daily health program. Primarily inspired by natural health practices, the proposed solutions enable the implementation of better daily habits through: an anti-inflammatory diet, appropriate medicinal plants, targeted nutritional supplements, and health practices to integrate into one's lifestyle.
